Q1.      What membership levels are available from the Brookwood Hills Community Club in 2011?

A.       The Community Club offers three membership levels for BWH residents and one level for "out of the neighborhood" members. The A membership level provides access to the pool, park, and tennis facilities as well as helping fund our neighborhood security patrol, maintain and protect our Clear Creek property, and otherwise support the Board's efforts to work on the neighborhood's behalf in zoning, traffic, and beautification issues. The annual dues for an A membership are $760.

Along with the A membership, two reduced rate memberships are offered for BWH residents. The B membership covers the costs associated with our security patrol, park maintenance, and other zoning and beautification issues, but does not include use of the pool and tennis facilities. Annual dues at this level are $300.

The S (senior/grandparent) membership is available to neighbors 60 or older, and offers all the benefits of the A level membership at the reduced cost of $500 per year.

The C membership level provides access to the pool, park and tennis facilities for people who live outside of the boundaries of Brookwood Hills.  The benefits of a C membership are the close to those available to A members.  The annual dues for a C member is $810.

Q2.      What membership levels have an initiation fee?

A.      All of the membership levels except the B membership (the A, S, and C membership levels) require an initiation fee in addition to annual dues.  In 2011, the initiation fee for the A, S, and C membership levels are $3150, $2000, and $4000, respectively.

Q3.      I have been asked to join as a C member?  May I defer my membership?

A.      No. Due to the demand for C memberships and the lengthy time that most people remain on the wait list, the Board of Directors of the Brookwood Hills Community Club has decided to not allow people to defer membership.  All C membership initiation fees and first year annual dues must be paid by May 15th or the date the pool opens, whichever is earlier.

Q4.      When is the deadline to pay my dues?

A.      All dues typically must be paid by March 31st of each year.  Usually the club adds a $150 fee for all dues paid after March 15.  After March 31st, we begin contacting members of the wait list to join the club and individuals who have not paid their dues will be removed from the club membership lists and must rejoin the wait list.

Q5.      How do I pay my dues?

A.      You may typically pay your dues two ways.  First, you may always pay in cash or by paper check by paying the "Brookwood Hills Community Club."  In fact, all initiation fees must be paid by paper check or cash.  Second, you may pay annual dues for the second year of membership (and each year thereafter) by credit card.  Typically, the club adds a small convenience fee to this transaction to offset the cost of maintaining an online payment system.

Q6.      Does the club take installment payments for initiation fees and annual dues?

A6.      No, see question 4, above.

Q7.      May I (my child/husband/wife/etc.) join the Brookwood Hills swim team/tennis team/etc. if I am not a member of the Brookwood Hills Community Club?

A7.      No, annual dues and initiation fees are used to defray the costs of these programs and maintain club facilities.

Q8.      Who approved these draconian practices?

A8.      All of the membership terms, requirements, and practices are expressly listed in the Bylaws of the Brookwood Hills Community Club or formally approved by a majority vote of a quorum of the Board of Directors of the Brookwood Hills Community Club.  While the Membership Chair implements the guidelines of the club, he or she has no ability to alter the membership terms without a formal vote of the Board or the entire membership of the club.

Q9.      How long will I be a part of the prospective member pool?

A9.      Historically, we have asked approximately 30 to 40 people each year from the prospective member pool to join the Brookwood Hills Community Club.  Of course, due to recent economic conditions we have far exceeded the historical norm over the past two years (2009, 2010).  Over the past five years (2005-2010) we have asked, on average, 50 people from the prospective member pool to join the club. Calling, emailing, and asking current members for letters of recommendation will do nothing to improve your chances of joining the club.

Q10.    What is the best way to ask a question?

A10.    The email address is the best way to contact the membership chair of the club.  You may also want to contact the club president, but, it make take several days for a response from either board member-especially between January and March.  The club is run entirely by volunteers and they may be busy at their real job.

Q11.    What benefits do Brookwood Hills Community Club volunteers receive?

A11.    None. They pay the same dues amount you do and serve on the Board of Directors completely out of the goodness of their hearts-seriously.

Q12.    When is the best time to join the prospective member pool?

A12.    Immediately.  The prospective member pool was closed for several years because the estimated time to join the club approached seven years.  The prospective member pool was opened in December 2010 and will remain open until the Board of Directors determines that the list has become unmanageable. Be sure to follow all of the instructions contained on the prospective member application to ensure that you join the list.  You will know you have joined the list when the club cashes your non-refundable, non-transferable, one-time application check.  You may also follow your status by going to the "Membership" tab on the neighborhood's website (www.brookwoodhills.com).

Q13.  I rent in BWH.  May I join the club?

A13.  Starting in 2012, people who rent homes in Brookwood Hills may only join by putting their name on the waitlist (if it is open).  Membership in the Club is always open to resident owners who live in Brookwood Hills.
